The fish trap shown is a freshwater trap. Traditionally Aboriginal people made fish traps from pandanus fibre, laying them in the afternoon and checking them in the morning. Fish would be caught in the trap overnight. The sticks shown on either side of the mouth of the trap hold the trap in place. The mandjabu (fish trap) is Djang (Dreaming) for the artist, a Kunwinjku man.
