‘It’s 1983, I’m awake, it’s freezing, 10 or 11 below zero, out in the bush Yipirinya Country, West of Alice this side of Ntaria, moon setting, sun rising. I saw the whole event for almost 10 to 15 minutes.
They were perfectly aligned. There were other fellas there, but being so cold, I don’t think anyone of them saw what I saw. They all slept under a very large show tent tarp.
At brief moments I kinda believed maybe these giant balls, ‘cos they looked so enormous, were gonna roll on us all and kill us.
They were so close to the earth, and so perfectly aligned with each other. I believe I was meant to see this event, and I will see many more in the future.
To this day I’m still blown away by what I saw. That’s me, the little black dot on the bottom centre of moon and sun. It’s a first for me to put Australia in my paintings, and because I live in Port Augusta, the old man on the moon tail starts there.’ -Cameron Ross Punkarte, 5th November 2020 (signed)
