Milarrangkudj was promised to Borlokko, the water python. But she was doing the wrong thing, following other men. Borlokko went to ask her mother and father for permission for “ngulken”, meaning going away camping for a few days. They agreed. The first stop they made was at a place called “Wamba Warddedadjeng” (which means “the shark split the sandstone”). Borlokko asked Milarrangkudj to go and get some water. She went and got the water, and they had a breakfast of karrbarda, long yams. After that, they walked a bit further to a place called Wurrakkak. In the morning, Borlokko asked Milarrangkudj to go and get some water again. Then Borlokko went downstream. When he touched the water there, he turned into the Rainbow Serpent. Then when Milarrangkudj went to get the water, Borlokko was there
underneath the water as the Rainbow Serpent. Looking up, he could see Milarrangkudj above the water and the child inside her like an xray. Borlokko said to himself “that’s not my baby. That baby belongs to someone else. I have to kill them both.” Borlokko grabbed Milarrangkudj and pulled her into the water. Then he pulled her out again onto the sand. She was kneeling on the sand, with her palms on ground. And at that point, the baby started to be born. Not the right way, but through her mouth. Borlokko took the mother and child and put them against a rock wall, turning them into a picture. You can still see the picture there on the rock at Wurrakkak.
