This painting is titled ‘Bush Yam Dreaming’ or Medicine Leaf, she referred to the painting as bush medicine story. The work is reflective of traditional times of living in the bush collecting native bush foods and hunting. The artists’ traditional country in the Central Desert of Australia was a harsh environment and before white settlers arrival the nomadic tribes survived by having intimate knowledge of the land and what it could provide to them through the seasons. This included using many different plants for their healing properties as natural medicines. A ‘Doctor’ person who knew all of these remedies was highly revered in the tribal group.
