Yalti Napangati

This painting depicts Tingari women as they travelled east from Warlprru near Kiwirrkurra towards Wilkinkarra, (Lake MacKay). Yalti paints her country which includes Patjarr, Laurryi and Wirrulnga.
The Tingari women gathered a variety of bush foods on their journey east including kampurampa berries (desert raisin) and pura (bush tomato) Kampurampa berries can be eaten directly from the plant but are sometimes ground into a paste and cooked on the coals as a type of damper.
The U- shapes in the painting represent the women traveling holding ceremonies and singing stories. The painting also shows features of the country through which they travelled as well as the bush foods they gathered.
The arcs show escarpments and rocky outcrops, circles show water soaks and rock holes or camping places often linked together. The smaller circles often represent the bush foods being gathered along the way. The journeys taken would often last weeks or months depending on the season, water and food available.
