This woomera (or spear thrower) was carved and painted by Kaapa at Papunya in 1974/75. It is well rubbed with natural red ochre. The hand grip is built up with resin from the gum tree and incorporates a piece of quartz that can be used to scrape spears. The tip end holds the spear and was usually a piece of very hard wood or fashioned kangaroo bone. It is tied on with a piece of kangaroo ligament or gut.
