Once again, this is my story, my painting, I can’t do drawings properly, but use your imagination. I saw with my eyes, the prettiest fish in the 1970s. My father took me as a young kid straight after the big rains in and around Alice Springs (Yipirinya), Aranda Country.
There was so many different coloured fish, schools of fish, around all the big river gums, in large pools of water. 2 to 3 days after the water goes down, you only have a short time and the fish die till next flood. Now no more big floods underneath, long time. Not too many people seen the fish. Amazing.
The 3 fairy wrens, 1 red, black and white, 1 yellow, black and white, and 1 dark blue, light blue, black and white. In 1983 Jan 1st, A place near Hermannsburg, a juvenile place for young teens (lads).
First day at Wallace Rockhole I see the 3 birds. It blew my mind. Yes, fabulous to see 3 together in the same bush. I ran after them for a while to get a good look. So beautiful. Amazing.
It wasn’t until later I realised it was the Kadatji Man. I was right next to him but couldn’t see him, only the birds. He put on a show for me, never harmed me.
Later that same year, in November 1983, at Amberlindum Station (west of Alice Springs), my first day I saw the white kangaroo while on horseback. I just stared at the most awesome kangaroo ever. I’m just freaking, I can’t believe this moment. Goosebumps, disbelief after the events earlier in the year, now this, an albino kangaroo. Silly me. Afterwards in my life I found it was once again the Kadajti Man.
Just 3 days later I ended up in hospital for 3-4 weeks suffering from boils inside both kidneys. Had doctors in ASH (Alice Springs Hospital) baffled.
So this is very special.
Oh and our famous ghost gum is here, in the surroundings. Dead forests of Mulga. Rocky grounds.
