This necklace was made by Corrie Fullard and her daughter Jeanette James – both Tasmanian Aboriginal women. They together continue the ancient craft of shell necklace stringing. This necklace was completed early in 2004 from blue maireneer shells collected from Cape Barren and Flinders Islands over a five year period. This necklace is an exquisite example of traditional craft and such necklaces were worn by Aboriginal women for adornment. They were traded and also given in return for acts of generosity. Corrie and Jeanette are past finalists in the Telstra Art Awards. The necklace is presented along with a dilly bag by Auntie Eva Richardson in a blackheart sassafras wooden case made by Tasmanian craftsman Ben Van Dorsselaer.
