Namarali is the great Wandjina that belongs to the Wororra tribe. Namarali represents the top, middle and bottom Wororra tribes up the North West Kimberley on the coast. His laws, culture and language starts from Oobagooma and goes north towards Prince Regent area this is where the Wororra Boundary ends. Namarali is the most prominent Wandjina for the Wororra people. He created many laws for the Wororra people which is related specifically to funeral customs. Namarali was speared in a Wandjina war at Langii north of Doughtful Bay. The painting of Namarali lies five kilometers inland from Langii in a cave. The Dumbi is an owl which resides in Ngarinyin country. A boy and girl teased the Dumbi after they found that his tree was knocked over by the wind. The Dumbi could not fly away because Mayanki oni (cold) and the Wilmi (due) was sticking his feathers together. So the Boy and Girl plucked out his feathers and threw him into the air three times. When Dumbi finally got away he called out to the great Wandjina Wanalirri who said he would create a large Ngarli mindi (flood) to punish the tribe from where the boy and girl was from. At a place called Djundi mindi, the Wandjina’s gathered a large flock of Karroongkarli / Kurrada Nyinda ( Brolgas) who stomped on a huge Nyalgoorro (Black soil plains) to create quicksand. The flood came and drowned many people and those who tried to escape were lost in the quicksand. The young boy and girl were safe because they were on higher grounds. They were taken there by Mangarra Djirri ( Ungud Kangaroo) and they travelled on the kangaroo’s tail. Margurrigurri (Tata Lizard) warned the Wandjina’s that the boy and girl had escaped. So the Wandjin’s sent the lightning and rain to chase the kids in which they ran into a hollow Larlgurdi tree (Boabnut tree). Once they were in the tree the Wandjina closed it up and they were lost forever. In another version of this story the children who survived the flood ended up producing a new tribe.
