This painting should~ be viewed as looking down from the sky to Mother Earth. This has been a hard canvas to paint due to my brother’s crocodile being judged and hunted constantly – his home is being taken like ours was. And they show the same respect for him as they did us – none at all. When will all people realize that we are animals as well? We are brothers and sisters to all things; we are equal with all creation, and in my dreaming there has to be a balance. But as it has been shown many times that anything that can’t be controlled must be killed, and, for what reason? My people lived in harmony with all things since time came, with respect and caring hearts. But in the past two hundred years we’ve watched the killing of many things – mineral, vegetation and animal. I’ve had enough of this stupidity. That’s why I have painted this canvas to show you what’s to come if we don’t stop this now. My brother crocodile has a soul, which is the dark work in his centre. The eyes are the windows of his soul. That’s why they are the same colour, the hatchwork is the world between the unseen and the seen, where his lessons in life are stored and all the wisdom he will need in this lifetime. The golden bands inside of him are the keepers of his elders. The white dots in those bands are his elders – they are with him for all time in life and after life. We are the same as him in so many ways like brothers. The background of the painting is what we are doing to the land on an ever increasing rate, like it’s some sort of race to kill everything and ourselves. It is starting to look like this already – the black lines with white dots are dried up rivers – the white dots are my brothers that have already moved to the dreaming world because of greed, fear and lack of respect brought here by a very strange people. Timeless Dreaming is a painting that tells a story, a love story, for I love all my brothers and sisters. We must first learn to put all things before ourselves or they will, behind us in time, be gone forever, and we will be next. Please don’t take offence to our truths – I tell it as I see it in my dreaming. Artist: Dusty Roads In memory of my Grandfather Balla.
