In this work Alison portrays the brilliant display of celestial objects visible on the clearest of nights at Haasts Bluff. It is a variation on her grandfather’s tjukurrpa (Pira Dreaming), in which the full moon is depicted in the night sky. In this depiction though she is presenting the night sky during the ‘new moon’ phase, as this period of each month is a spectacular time in the remote desert regions of Australia. This interpretation demonstrates her skill not only as a fine artist in her own right, but as a very contemporary female Aboriginal artist. This progressive translation (relative to the more traditional aboriginal artists) can also be observed in her ‘Bushfire’ themed paintings circa 2002-2005.
