Down through our Ancestral time, women have played a very important part/role in our Aboriginal society. They carried all the responsibilities of the day to day gathering of food for the clan and the feeding of the old and young. Men hunted and planned clan and tribal business with other clans. In our dreamtime, when the time comes for a woman’s passing into the spirit world, they become “Spirit Women”, continuing to look after the clan, assisting in the gathering of food, showing the women where the best places for gathering food, hunting can be found, and watching out for their wellbeing and the clans safety and protection. They even go so far as to protect their clans from attacks from other hostile tribes, directing them into unknown country, playing tricks on them, and getting them lost in another tribes’ country. They are “Spirit Women”. Z. Wallace November 2015
