Felicity Nampijinpa Robertson

The site depicted in this painting is Puyurru, west of Yuendumu. In the usually dry creek bed are the water soakages or naturally occurring wells. Two men sang the rain and unleashed a giant storm. The storm travelled across the country from the east to the west initially travelling with a termite dreaming, a waterhole 8 miles east of Yuendumu. A gecko called Yumariyumari blew the storm on and lighting shot out onto the country. The water dreaming built the hills at Ngamangama using baby clouds and also stuck long pointy clouds into the ground. They can be seen today as rock formations. The termite dreaming eventually continued west and then to the south before the storm was picked up by a brown falcon who took it further north. The falcon dug up a giant rainbow serpent. The serpent carried the water with it to create a large lake.
