Down through our Ancestral time, women have played a very important part/role in Aboriginal society. They carry all the responsibilities of the day to day gathering of food for the clan and the feeding of the young and old. Men hunt and plan clan and tribal business with other clans. In our dreamtime, when the time comes for a woman’s passing into the spirit world, they become “Spirit Women”, continuing to look after the clan, assisting in the gathering of food, showing the women where the best places for gathering food or hunting can be found, and watching out for their wellbeing, and the clans safety and protection. They even go as far as to protect their clan from attacks from rival clans, directing them into unknown country, playing tricks on them, and getting them lost in another clan’s country. They are “Spirit Women”.
