Zita Pengarte Wallace

From the beginning of our dreamtime, Ngankere’s were a part of our lives. They (Ngankere) can be a man or a woman, lived among our people, helping, healing, guiding in everyday affairs of the tribe. They could, if provoked, do harm or make a person very ill. The Ngankere’s hold a special place, a revered place in Aboriginal society. They perform arts and acts that a normal Aboriginal cannot. They are special and are treated with absolute respect. They are sometimes referred to as a witchdoctor or a magician, to us, Aboriginal people, they are healers – “Ngankere’s”.
