Jinani was the son of Purukaparli and Bima, important ancestoral figures in the Tiwi parlinari (dreamtime/creation time). As Bima is tempted into the bush to make love with her brother-in-law Taparra, the baby boy dies of heatstroke. Although he was in a shady spot, his mother’s long absence meant the sun moved over and he was burned and killed.
