This necklace was purchased from a shop in Sydney by a second hand dealer and then sold to Art Mob in May 2003. The length is ceremonial length of about 1.6 metres and the evenness of double strand stringing is a sign of its authenticity as a Tasmanian Aboriginal shell necklace. The necklace hangs beautifully and the shells have a distinctive right/left fall to them with few broken or missing. From the colour of the shells its origin is most probably Cape Barren or Flinders Island and I would estimate its age to be possibly 100 years old or more. Euan Hills, Art Mob gallery director August 2005.
