This is Sam Juparulla Wickman’s 5th solo exhibition with Art Mob. In 1994 Sam wrote a paper entitled “Glass: An addition to the Aboriginal toolkit” as part of his honours degree at ANU in Canberra. He discussed the introduction of glass to Australia by Dutch seamen disposing of bottles at sea. These floated onto the northern coastlines and were fashioned by Aboriginal people into spearpoints, cutters and scrapers.
Sam has taken this to another level where he is using glass to express his cultural links.
