Alick Tipoti Mawa Wagel 2007
Linocut image, 810x1210mm paper

Mawa Wagel means Mawa (mask) after or later. I try to capture how I would have created this mask had I not been influenced by today's modern, western society. Such masks were usually carved out of a certain tree that we call Wapadh that grows on most of the island in the Torres Strait.
