Jock Mosquito Cherabun Station 2008
Ochre on canvas
100 x 150cm

This is Cherabun Station, near Fitzroy Crossing. Most people don’t know but I worked there for a while when I was a young fella. Len Hill sent me over to help out for mustering. See the two billabongs (depicted in blue/grey) near Yakinara – deep water all year round, with wet, sandy land surrounding them. The country is pretty dry here, so the billabongs are an important part of the people’s lives, and always have been. After I saw them, they really stuck in my mind. The Rainbow Serpent made them.
