This is a ceremonial and dancing headdress, the marking on the pearl shell reflex, the sea water spout, which is the sign that the season has finished and another season starts.

The Little cowrie shells, the half pods and the cassowary feathers are spiritual cultural marking unique to the lifestyle traditions of the Torres Strait Islander people.

The pearl shell underneath the headdress is named Katau Mai The full circle is symbol of a high status warrior.
