Natalie Puantulura
The imagery in Natalie's paintings generally shows varying elements including full moon sequences and stars that refer to the last full moon of the wet season when it's time to initiate the boys and for harvesting one of the yams that is deadly poisonous except at this time. The yams are prepared and cooked for Kulama ceremony that goes on for up to seven days. The triangular elements refer back to the artist's grandfather, the late Declan Apuatimi, who was renowned for selling ochre painted sawfish blades to the visiting tourists.
