Yvonne’s mother is from Mt Doreen, near Yuendumu Community and her father comes from Apungalindum, near Utopia (north east of Alice Springs). Born and schooled in Alice Springs, Yvonne currently lives between Charles Creek, Kunoth Camp and Utopia Community where she has worked at the clinic as an ambulance driver and a sport and recreation officer.
Yvonne is one of Tangentyere’s most innovative and successful artists. Following the 2007 Telstra NATSIA Award, Yvonne was inundated with commissions. In 2008 she was commissioned to paint a work for the Seattle Art Museum in the USA, and was a finalist in the Metro 5 art award in Melbourne.
Yvonne has a traditional grounding in art from her family in Utopia, but has pioneered a signature technique. Her work is mainly concerned with the plants, fruits and flowers from the Utopia lands and is distinguished by its layered dot work that builds a subtle vibratory effect.
