Wentja was brought to Yiyi Bore from the bush as a young girl. She is the daughter of the prominent Papunya Tula artist Shorty Lungkata Tjungurrayi, who was one of the first Western Desert artists to paint on canvas. Wentja moved to New Bore – an outstation of Mt Liebig – after she married Papunya Tula artist Ginger Tjakamarra where they still reside today. Wentja has a very strong connection with her culture and a distinctive naïve style. Wentja likes to sing the story as she is painting – this gives a very powerful cultural experience.
