Veronica Lulu commenced painting in 1979 and began to emerge as a leading artist of the region in the late 1990’s. Veronica learnt basket making in the last 10 years through various workshops and community members.
Veronica was born at Lake Stretch where she lived a traditional life collecting bush foods and bush medicines. Veronica saw white people for the first time when she was about five years old. When Veronica was a young girl she was taken away to live at Old Balgo Mission.
Veronica has taught many of her daughters the art of making baskets. Her basket making uses traditional grasses and raffia to produce unique works which have been included in many group exhibitions here and overseas and are included in the Kluge Ruhe Collection, USA.
