Tjampawa is the mother of artist Tjimpayi and grandmother to artist Joylene. They are known as Tjurma people, having been the land owners of Amata community lands. Tjampawa is an elderly woman who paints at Wingellina as well as Tjurma Homelands and Minymaku Arts (now Tjala Arts). Tjampawa started painting firstly at Minymaku Arts around 1999. She continues to paint on her visits to Wingellina.
She was born about 1921 in the bush near Amata in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara lands in South Australia. Her mother’s country is Wingellina and her father’s country is Inkala, near Watarru. She does not disclose her dreamings for cultural reasons.
Tjampawa paints on canvas with acrylic paints, makes baskets and tjanpi (grass) animals.
