Rosemary Morgan or Parrabaty was born at Daly River on the 22nd June 1958 and was raised by her father. She went to primary school at St Francis Xavier and then went to high school at St John’s College in Darwin, NT.
When she finished her education, Rosemary returned to Daly River and worked as a health worker, bank teller, a secretary at a school and payroll officer until 1997. She then moved to Batchelor, NT to look after her father and in time took him back to his country at the Bulgul Community, a small community situated on the western side of Wagait Reserve approximately 220km south west of Darwin. It is home to the Wadjigan tribe which have lived in the area along the coastline, from south of the mouth of the Daly River. When he father passed away Rosemary stayed at Bulgul and has remained there since.
Rosemary Morgan Parrabaty started painting when she was living at Daly Rive. She started off working on small pieces for school auctions. She loved painting and sharing her stories and gradually grew her career as an artist alongside her sisters Agatha Ngakmik Morgan and Marjorie Terrikil Morgan. Her nieces Helen Tyalmuty McCarthy and Kerry Madawyn McCarthy are also well-known artists. Kerry won the People’s Choice Award at the 2007 Telstra Awards.
Rosemary has been involved in group exhibitions in Australia and overseas and currently paints full time in Bulgul being inspired by her surroundings.
