Matilda Gallarla

Matilda was born at Nguiu on Bathurst Island in 1976. Her family soon after moved across Aspley Strait to Garden Point on Melville Island where she went to school during her formative years. When Matilda was 14 years old she attended boarding school in Brisbane – Slade School in Warwick. She spent several years there before returning to Darwin to finish high school at Kormilda College.

Her main employment since leaving school has been as a Sports and Recreation officer for the Tiwi Islands Shire Council. She began painting in 2010 and has already proven to be a promising and talented artist.
