Maime Butler is a highly respected artist who grew up in the Blackstone area, she spent much of her childhood in the Benson camp with Kantjupayi Benson. Maime is a Mitchell and the country north of Blackstone along the Walu road is Mitchell country with many stories and important cultural places. Maime is a strong leader in the Blackstone community and works closely with both Papulankutja Artists as ‘Chairperson’ for 2009 and 2010 as well deputy Chair for Blackstone Community Council. She also works with the Tjanpi Desert Weavers.
Mamie married into family from Tjukurrla way and spends time travelling to visit family in Blackstone and Tjukurrla. Maime also works with Utikulintja at NPY Womens Council Mental Health, and is currently on the Board of Directors for Desart.
