Joanna was born at Angurugu on Groote Eylandt in 1958. She attended school at Angurugu and Alyangula. After school she would watch her father Joe Wurramara paint and make spears. Joanna learnt the art of weaving pandanus into baskets and making dilly bags by watching the old ladies in the community. Today Joanna is one of Groote Eylandts best artists, she paints, carves, weaves using traditional methods.
Joanna’s dugongs where chosen as the logo for the recently opened Dugong Beach Resort on Groote Eylandt.
