Don Tjungerai

Don Tjungerai was born ‘out bush’ in c.1939 and is of the Loritja tribe. Don received some schooling as a boy at the Yuendumu settlement but preferred the life of a stockman, and worked cattle on many of the stations in the western desert area before settling at Papunya in the late 1970’s. There he began painting under the guidance of his elder stepbrother Paddy Carroll Tjungurrayi.Don is married to Entalura Nungala, a senior woman of the Papunya Community who is also a well renowned artist. They have a son, a daughter and four grandchildren.
