Christabella was born at Ernabella in the Anangu Yankunytjatjara Lands in north west South Australia. She is married and has 2 childen. She has lived at Titjikala for the past 10 years and started painting in 2003. Christabella has gained significant recognition as a talented and successful painter, working primarily in the ‘naïve’ style. Her unique style is characterised by loose brush strokes and flowing line work often built up over bold background colours symbolizing her ancient country. Christabella’s paintings feature stylised gum trees, wild flowers, water holes and native animals. Goannas, dingoes and emus may be seen scouring the dry, dusty homeland, as women gather traditional ‘bush tucker’ in coolamons. Traditional themes and activities are often juxtaposed with modern day features such as motor cars and aeroplanes. Christabella works in a broad range of bright, vibrant colours, each symbolosing the ever changing moods of the desert seasons. Her painting exudes a deep love of her country, travel and gathering bush tucker. Her Dreaming is Marlu Tjukurpa (Kangaroo Dreaming).
