Nuntalara is the name of Bertha’s father’s country and is far to the south of Balgo in the Great Sandy Desert. According to Bertha’s father it was in Nuntalara that an early explorer hid a bag of gold when he was being chased. He hid that gold in the swampy country around here, but never came back to collect it. The bag of gold is still out there. The painting depicts the tali (sandhills) which dominate the landscape of the area.
